Hyundai has put a period on all the speculations over i20 based crossover’s launch date with an official release stating its arrival on the 18th of this month. Dubbed as i20 Active, the vehicle is based on the recently-launched Elite i20 and will be competing against the likes of Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross and Volkswagen Cross Polo.

At one glance, the i20 Active more-or-less looks like a beefier i20, like most of the hatch-based crossovers available currently. Though there are some noticeable changes, including full-body black plastic cladding, redesigned bumpers incorporating tweaked grille and large circular fog lamps, new skid plate, roof rails and projector head-lamps with daytime running lamps. Also, the i20 Active will sport new alloy wheels and with raised suspension in order to gain better ground clearance completing the SUV-ish stance.

Engine options will most likely be retained and the i20 Active would feature the same mills as its hatchback counterpart. Its petrol variants will be powered by a 1.2-litre Dual VTVT Kappa unit that puts out a maximum power of 82 bhp along with peak torque of 115 Nm. While the more-selling diesel trims will be powered by the trusted 1.4-litre U2 CRDi mill, good for 89 bhp and 220Nm peak torque.

We’ll be driving the i20 Active very soon, stay tuned for a comprehensive drive report!
