Australia Stocks end mixed

The Australian share market closed flat on Wednesday, 23 October 2019, as gains in property trusts and miners were offset by losses in the communications, financials, and healthcare stocks. At closing bell, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index edged up 0.91 point, or 0.01%, to 6,673.09, while the broader All Ordinaries eased 0.40 point, or 0.01%, to 6,778.22.

Shares of Healthcare firms were lower, with Resmed Inc down by 2.7 per cent, while Sonic Healthcare lost and Pro Medicus lost 1.3 per cent and 6.1 per cent, respectively.

Financial stocks were slightly lower, with Westpac Banking Corp falling 0.2 per cent after the lender said its cash earnings in the second half of 2019 would be reduced by about $233 million due to customer remediation programmes.

CURRENCY NEWS: The Australian dollar declined against greenback on Wednesday. The Australian dollar, sensitive to shifts in broader risk appetite, changed hands at 68.45 US cents, falling from highs of 68.6 earlier in the day.
