FPIs turn net sellers

Net outflow of Rs 202.53 crore on 1 July 2016

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold stocks worth a net Rs 202.53 crore from the secondary equity market on 1 July 2016, compared with inflow of Rs 1172.58 crore on 30 June 2016. The net outflow of Rs 202.53 crore from the secondary equity markets on 1 July 2016 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 3090.95 crore and gross sales of Rs 3293.48 crore. On that day, the Sensex rose 145.19 points or 0.54% to settle at 27,144.91, its highest closing level since 27 October 2015.

The net outflow of Rs 60.90 crore from the category 'primary markets & others' on 1 July 2016 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 5.15 crore and gross sales of Rs 66.05 crore. FPIs have bought shares worth a net Rs 3418.97 crore from the secondary equity markets in June. FPIs have purchased shares worth a net Rs 19206.03 crore from the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2016 so far (till 1 July 2016). FPIs sold shares worth a net Rs 4362.50 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015.

There has been a net inflow of Rs 293.91 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in June. The net inflow from FPIs into category 'primary markets & others' has totaled Rs 1178.71 crore in calendar year 2016 so far (till 1 July 2016). There was net inflow of Rs 22168.40 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in calendar year 2015.
