Hang Seng ends 0.5% up

Hong Kong share market finished the session modest higher in volatile trade on Monday, 14 July 2014, as investors took a positive lead from the United States where equities closed higher on Friday night. Meanwhile, gain in the mainland China markets on speculation about upbeat companies profit also underpinned sentiments. The benchmark Hang Seng Index closed 113.22 points, or 0.49%, up at 23346.67. The benchmark index opened 77 points higher and soared as many as 226 points at one stage. Turnover decreased to HK$47.73 billion from Friday's HK$51.43 billion.
