Inaugurating the National Conference on Dynamics of Urban & Pre-Urban Horticulture under aegis of the PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Tiwari said, in near future residential localities including commercial complex would have numerous solar panels installed on them for energy generations in them. Under such panels, mushroom crops could ideally be cultivated with the cooperation's of residence welfare associations by pumping in roof tops the waste water, littered and collected around such colonies.
The residential associations need to identify farmers groups and outsource the work for suitable and the best bidders for which financial and technical assistance be provided by the NHB and agencies identified by it so that in the urban and peri-urban areas, horticulture is developed for clean and green India, said Mr. Tiwari.
In addition, the NHB was aggressively marketing setting up of vegetable and flower nurseries and also working on a mechanism for their accreditation to promote vegi & flori culture so that habitation is provided for in urban and peri-urban areas where the availability of land was becoming extremely scarce, said Mr. Tiwari.
Speaking on the occasion Horticulture Commissioner, Dr. S K Malhotra indicated that the government would set up a core group with representatives from multi disciplinary governmental and non-governmental bodies including industry that will make recommendations for promotion of horticulture in urban and peri-urban areas.
