Indirect tax revenue collections touched 31.2% of the Budget Estimates for 2014-15
Indirect tax revenue collections increased 4.6% from Rs 185881crore in April-August 2013 to Rs 194492 crore in April-August 2014. Overall, indirect tax revenue collections have touched 31.2% of the Budget Estimates for 2014-15.The growth in the indirect tax revenue collections was mainly driven by service tax collections rising 15.1% to Rs 61870 crore in April-August 2014 from Rs 53751 crore in April-August 2013.
However, the central Excise collections increased at moderate pace of 0.5% to Rs 61415 crore in April-August 2014 from Rs 61131 crore in April-August 2013. Customs duty revenue collection also rose at weaker pace of 0.3% to Rs 71207 crore in April-August 2014 from Rs 70999 crore in April-August 2013.
