Market may open slightly higher

Trading of Nifty 50 index futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicates that the Nifty could rise 5 points at the opening bell. Shares of Spandana Spoorthy Financial will debut on the bourses today, 19 August 2019.

Overseas, Asian stocks were trading higher on Monday as hopes of more stimulus from central banks around the world and steps being taken by major economies such as Germany and China soothed investors' fears of a sharp global economic slump.

US stocks rebounded on Friday as news of potential German economic stimulus brought buyers back to the equities market.

Back home,key equity benchmarks ended marginally higher on Friday, 16 August 2019, rising for the second straight day. Steep gains were capped amid worries about slowing economic growth and ongoing Sino-US trade tensions. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 38.80 points or 0.1% to 37,350.33. The Nifty 50 index rose 18.4 points or 0.17% to 11,047.80.

The trading activity on that day showed that the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1339.27 crore on Friday, 16 August 2019, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1058.28 crore on Friday, 16 August 2019, as per provisional data.
