Market trading with modest gains

Stocks hovered in positive zone in morning trade. At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 62.58 points or 0.18% at 34,563.85. The Nifty 50 index was up 12.15 points or 0.11% at 10,582.70.

Key benchmark indices drifted higher in early trade.

The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.03%, underperforming the Sensex. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.24%, outperforming the Sensex.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was just about positive. On the BSE, 1,011 shares rose and 1,008 shares fell. A total of 114 shares were unchanged.

Bharti Airtel (down 0.96%), ONGC (down 0.95%) and Hero MotoCorp (down 0.69%) edged lower from the Sensex pack.

Axis Bank fell 1.24% ahead of its Q4 result today, 26 April 2018.

Yes Bank rose 0.18% ahead of its Q4 result today, 26 April 2018.

Overseas, Asian markets were trading on a mixed note. In US, the Dow Jones industrial average closed higher for the first time in six sessions on Wednesday, recovering from sharp losses seen earlier in the day, as Boeing soared on strong earnings.

The Dow closed at 24,083.83, up 59.70 points. The S&P 500 also erased earlier losses, closing 0.2% higher at 2,639.40. The Nasdaq composite, meanwhile, slipped 0.1% to 7,003.74.
