Production of Gram rises to 9.53 million tonnes in 2013-14 from 7.48 million tonnes in 2009-10

Production of Gram in the country has been generally increasing and its production has gone up from 7.48 million tonnes in 2009-10 to 9.53 million tonnes in 2013-14. In order to further increase production of pulses including Gram in the 12th Plan Period, the Government is implementing National Food Security Mission (NFSM)-Pulses in 622 districts of 27 States. Under the above Scheme, the focus is on cropping system approach instead of individual crop with interventions in terms of improved technologies i.e. need-based inputs, crop-based cropping systems, cluster demonstration of quality seeds, enhancing farm efficiency through improved agronomic practices such as line sowing, soil amendments, integrated nutrient management, integrated pest management, water use efficiency tools, farm machineries & implements etc.
