SCI sails ahead after taking delivery of a gas carrier

Shipping Corporation of India gained 1.46% to Rs 93.80 at 10:43 IST on BSE after the company said that it has taken physical delivery of a secondhand very large gas carrier of 53,503 dead weight tonnage capacity- Nanda Devi on 14 September 2017.

The announcement was made after market hours on Friday, 15 September 2017.

Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 205.02 points, or 0.64% to 32,477.63. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 141.82 points, or 0.89% to 16,114.56.

On the BSE, 32,921 shares were traded in the counter so far, compared with average daily volumes of 2.52 lakh shares in the past one quarter. The stock had hit a high of Rs 94.75 and a low of Rs 93 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 102.80 on 1 September 2017. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 55.75 on 22 November 2016.

The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 15 September 2017, gaining 11.52% compared with the 2.62% gains in the Sensex. The scrip had also outperformed the market in past one quarter, rising 8.26% as against Sensex's 3.85% gains. The stock had also outperformed the market over the past one year, gaining 32.54% compared with the 13.58% gains in the Sensex.

The mid-cap company has equity capital of Rs 465.80 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

Shipping Corporation of India reported net loss of Rs 6.72 crore in Q1 June 2017 compared with net profit of Rs 55.91 crore in Q1 June 2016. Net sales rose 4.7% to Rs 864.78 crore in Q1 June 2017 over Q1 June 2016.

Shipping Corporation of India in the largest Indian shipping company. The SCI also has substantial interests in various segments of the shipping trade. The government of India holds 63.75% stake in the company as on 30 June 2017.
