Telecom stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE Telecom index rising 18.15 points or 1.56% at 1179.77 at 09:48 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Vodafone Idea Ltd (up 4.66%), GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 2.7%),Optiemus Infracom Ltd (up 2.04%),Bharti Infratel Ltd (up 1.63%),Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 1.56%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were OnMobile Global Ltd (up 1.53%), HFCL Ltd (up 1.18%), Tejas Networks Ltd (up 1.18%), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 0.89%), and Sterlite Technologies Ltd (up 0.5%).
On the other hand, Reliance Communications Ltd (down 3.66%), and ITI Ltd (down 0.42%) moved lower.
At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 286.53 or 0.7% at 41253.39.
The Nifty 50 index was up 87.85 points or 0.73% at 12143.65.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 70.81 points or 0.48% at 14893.09.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 30.56 points or 0.6% at 5115.75.
On BSE,998 shares were trading in green, 320 were trading in red and 48 were unchanged.
