Pro-government militia Popular Resistance killed 14 Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Syria's Deir al-Zour province, media reported Wednesday.
The IS terrorists were killed in the towns of Ashara and Swaidan in Deir al-Zour Tuesday, Xinhua reported Wednesday.
The militia group also captured six more IS terrorists in the aforementioned towns.
Popular Resistance, a recently formed pro-government militia group in the oil-rich province, has carried out several attacks against the IS militants in the recent months.
Earlier this week, the Resistance group ambushed an IS vehicle, killing three of its occupants in Deir al-Zour, said the report.
Meanwhile, the oppositional Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the clashes renewed Tuesday between the IS and the Syrian pro government group in the neighbourhoods of Rashidiyeh and Jbaileh in Deir al-Zour, with no information on casualties yet.
The Syrian air force also struck the IS positions in the city of Bu Hasan in Deir al-Zour, killing at least one person, according to the Observatory.
The Deir al-Zour province in Syria is strategicially important to the IS as it is located near Syria-Iraq border.
