Sixteen primary school students were injured in a stampede at an indoor amusement park in China's Jiangsu province on Monday.

All of the injured students were from Nanjing Yuhua Experimental Primary School and were in stable condition, Xinhua news agency reported.

Two suffered serious injuries and were being treated at the intensive care unit at the Nanjing Children's Hospital.

The stampede occurred at an escalator in Happy World at Hongyang Plaza when a group of first and second grade students were lining up to ride the escalator during an autumn outing.

An investigation into the cause of the accident was underway.
