At least 22 people were killed and 17 others got injured in two separate accidents in Alexandria and Suez governorates in Egypt, state-run news agency MENA reported Sunday.
Seventeen people were killed and three others got injured when a bus collided with two vehicles on a highway in the coastal governorate of Alexandria, around 220 km northwest of the capital Cairo.
The tragedy took place after one of the rear tyres of the bus exploded and the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a truck and then a car.
The security forces rushed to the scene and the injured were taken to hospital.
In another accident, five people were killed and 14 others got injured when a bus overturned on the Suez-Qattamiya highway.
At least 10,000 people get killed in road accidents in Egypt each year, according to official reports.
Lack of highway monitoring systems, poor road maintenance and negligence of traffic rules are behind the high rate of such accidents in Egypt.
