At least 23 people were killed and 21 others wounded in road accidents near the Egyptian capital on Sunday, the official news agency MENA reported.

In one accident, at least 22 cars and trucks collided on the Koraymat desert road in Bani Sweif province in bad weather conditions, officials said.

Earlier on Sunday, seven people were killed in a train-truck crash southwest of Cairo.

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt due to poorly maintained roads and common disregard of traffic laws.
