25 militants killed across Afghanistan

At least 25 Taliban militants were Saturday killed in counter-terrorism operations in Afghanistan.

"The Afghan National Police conducted several anti-terrorism joint operations with the Afghan National Army and the National Directorate of Security to clean some of the areas of terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan," MENA quoted an interior ministry statement as saying.

The statement said at least eight militants were wounded in operations conducted in Ghazni, Badakhshan, Logar, Nangarhar, Kunar, Helmand and Kapisa provinces.

Three militants were also arrested during the same operations and a huge cache of ammunition confiscated.

The Afghan National Police also defused many improvised explosive devices (IED) in Faryab and Maidan Wardak provinces.

Earlier in the day, three people were killed when militants launched a massive offensive in Jani Khil district in Afghanistan.

A surge in terror attacks has been witnessed in the country since May when the Taliban launched a rebel offensive against Afghan security forces and NATO-led troops stationed in the country.
