A total of 262 first information reports (FIR) have been registered against political parties for alleged violation of the model code of conduct, Delhi Election Commission (DEC) said Tuesday.

The model code of conduct came into force Oct 5 with elections scheduled Dec 4.

"While 90 FIRs have been registered against Aam Aadmi Party, 60 are against Bharatiya Janata Party, 59 against Congress, 28 against Bahujan Samaj Party and 25 against others," said DEC chief electoral officer Vijay Dev.

Addressing a press meet, he said cases registered against political parties pertain to defacement of public and private property and circulation of money in Delhi constituencies.

The cases have been registered under various sections of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Properties Act, Representation of the People Act and Press and Registration of Books Act, he said.

Dev said flying squads have also found workers of various political parties distributing liquor among people in various constituencies.

"A total of 120,261 litres of country-made liquor and 8,000 litres of Indian made foreign liquor have been seized from various constituencies in west and east districts of Delhi," he said.

As all violation cases do not translate into FIRs, the flying squads have removed posters, banners and hoardings from public places, Dev said.

"Strict action will be taken against candidates who try to sabotage the tranquility of election by circulating money," he warned.
