Five Nepalese female journalists on Wednesday left on an expedition to climb Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.
The team, "First Women Journalists Everest Expedition 2018", will climb the 8,848 metres high peak starting next month under the slogan "Unified Voice for Equity", reports Xinhua news agency.
The team comprises of Nepal Television's Rojita Buddhacharya, a news agency's Rosha Basnet, News 24 Television's Priya Laxmi Karki, Megha Television's Kalpana Maharjan and freelancer Deurali Chamling.
"We want to reach the top of the world together to raise awareness for equality, to inspire women and youths and to promote tourism in Nepal," Buddhacharya, the youngest among them, told Xinhua.
"Instead of a pen, this time we will be using an ice axe to share the news stories to the general public," Basnet said.
According to the team members, they will also conduct live streaming of their journey starting from the base camp to the top of the Everest.
Their endeavour was backed by the state-run Nepal Television.
The world's highest peak has already been conquered by 536 women from across the world.
According to the Tourism Department, 36 teams with 336 mountaineers have been granted permission to climb Everest this season. The climbers are from India, China, the US, Britain, Norway, Switzerland, Russia and Australia.
