A break-up record: Stefani on new music

Singer Gwen Stefani says she would consider her new album a "break-up record".

"The Voice" coach - who announced her split from Gavin Rossdale in August - called in to San Diego's 93.3 Tuesday to promote her heartbreak single "Used to love you", and dished on her upcoming album, due early next year, reports people.com.

"I didn't even know the single was coming out. I promise you that it was very last-minute. It's weird because 'Used to love you' came out the exact same week as the 20-year anniversary of (band No Doubt's) 'Tragic Kingdom', which just to me is like, 'What are the chances of that?' " she said.

As for the common theme of her upcoming new songs?

"I would consider it a break-up record. Both of them were. It's like the two people I... I only had two boyfriends. I wrote two records about them. You know what I mean? It's just weird," said Stefani, 46.

"It just makes me believe in god and my journey. My cross to bear was to go through these heartbreaks and write these songs and help people."

While she remained mum on her dating life, she did open up a little more about the song that was inspired by her divorce.

"My truth is 'Used to love you': That's the song. That's what I said, and I feel really fine about sharing that, and I feel honoured to share it," she said.
