The debutant Aam Admi Party (AAP) Sunday removed its candidate of an East Delhi constituency for the November Delhi assembly elections after it emerged that there were criminal charges against the candidate.
Surendra Sharma, who was initially selected as AAP's candidate for Shahdara assembly constituency, has been removed by the Political Affairs Committee of the party.
A release by the party said that Sharma did not disclose in his application for selection as party's candidate, that there were criminal cases, property disputes and FIRs lodged against him.
Sharma was recently appointed as the chairperson of Shahdara Bar Association election committee. The release further said that this election was cancelled due to allegations of use of unfair means and violence during the elections.
