Acid attack victim shows sign of improvement: AIIMS

The 30-year-old female doctor who sustained burn injuries after acid was hurled at her at a crowded market here is showing slight improvement at the AIIMS, hospital authorities said Wednesday.

Amrita Kaur, employed with an Employees State Insurance hospital, was attacked by two motorcycle-borne assailants at around 9.30 a.m. Tuesday in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden area. She sustained burn injuries on the right side of her face and eye.

"The patient has shown slight improvement in the condition of the eye. Her condition is being closely monitored and she continues to be under the doctor's best care," All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) spokesman Amit Gupta said in a statement.

According to Gupta, the level of eye injury suffered by the patient was of the highest degree and was classified as Grade IV injury.

"The patients facial skin injuries are being treated by Maneesh Singhal, Plastic Surgeon from Department of Surgery at AIIMS," Gupta said, adding that Kaur was under the care of Additional Professor of Ophthalmology and Cornea expert Tushar Agarwal.
