Social activist Shabnam Hashmi Monday claimed she was surrounded, threatened and manhandled by "goons" of the BJP who even threatened to rape her while she was distributing pamphlets in Rae Bareli.
In a statement, Hashmi said she and her associate Pratap Singh Negi were "surrounded, threatened and manhandled by 25-30 BJP goons 100 metres away from Gadaganj police station, Rae Bareli, for distributing JAVAB (Janvadi Vichar Andolan Bharat) leaflets exposing Modi's myth of Gujarat development".
She said the goons threw away all the pamphlets and used highly abusive language.
They even threatened to rape her and burn the vehicle.
"Police refused to file an FIR despite written complaint given to the station house officer," she said in the statement.
Condemning the incident in the "strongest possible terms", the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) demanded that the hoodlums be immediately apprehended.
