Markets in Agra remained closed Thursday morning in response to the call for Uttar Pradesh shut-down to protest manhanding of Banwari Lal Kancchal, state business leader and former president of the Vyapar Mandal.

Kancchal was allegedly beaten up by some lawyers in Lucknow a few days ago.

Bazaars were closed in Mathura, Hathras and Aligarh also.

But after lunch, shops started opening and business resumed.

The bandh was supported by a large number of bazaar committees. The leaders of the associations claimed the shut-down was a total success.

But the police and administrative officials said there was no impact of the bandh call in the region.
