Air India Wednesday deployed a special aircraft to Tunisia to airlift Indians stranded in neighbouring Libya, an official said here.

The flight AI-161, a Boeing 777LR with a capacity of 238, left for Djerba in Tunisia to evacuate the Indians stuck in Libya.

It is expected to return to New Delhi from Djerba around 1 a.m. Thursday.

This is the second rescue operation carried out by the national carrier in one month.

Last month, it had operated a special flight to evacuate Indian nurses and others in Iraq and safely brought them back home.
