Ajax's Siem de Jong and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson will be sidelined for weeks, after the two strikers returned from international duty injured.
Sigthorsson got injured during Iceland's World Cup qualification play-off against Croatia Nov 15. He did travel with the Icelandic team for the return leg in Zagreb and had an MRI scan in Iceland. The scan revealed that he suffered a tear in the ligaments of his right ankle, the Amsterdam based football club announced Thursday, reports Xinhua.
De Jong limped off during Tuesday's friendly between the Netherlands and Colombia in Amsterdam (0-0). An MRI scan Thursday made clear that the Dutchman suffered a right hamstring strain.
Both Ajax players will be further examined, but are out for weeks. Sigthorsson will probably not play anymore this year. They will both miss next week's Champions League match against FC Barcelona in Amsterdam.
