The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to upgrade security around the high court complex in the state capital. A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting of police and home department officials.

Principal Secretary (Home) R.M. Srivastava told IANS that the high court building would come under 24x7 closed-circuit camera television (CCTV) surveillance.

A report has been presented to the state government by Additional Director General of Police (Security) O.P. Singh, in which he has detailed every aspect, including the terror threats to the court complex.

Other than the CCTV cameras, the state government has also given the go-ahead for the installation of boom barriers, vehicle search mirrors, x-ray scanners, card reader lap gates, hand-free and door-frame metal detectors at entry and exit points and other vantage points in the premises.

A contingency plan backed with fire-fighting and bomb disposal squads and commandos has also been prepared, an official said.

"The proposal for the security upgrade has been cleared in principle, and very soon the budget shall be sanctioned to ensure early completion of the security plan," an official said.

Courts have come under terror attacks in Uttar Pradesh in the past.
