Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah Sunday chaired a meeting of the BJP's chief ministers in the capital and asked them to make every possible attempt for success of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
A party statement said the meeting discussed the Clean India campaign, membership drive, organisational issues and good governance initiatives.
"He (Shah) specially discussed the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. He asked the chief ministers to make all possible efforts for success of the campaign," the release said.
Shah said the goal of having at least one bank account per family has to be reached.
He said the poor will be empowered by financial inclusion.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to observe Dec 25 - the birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee - as Good Governance Day, Shah said state governments and the party's organisation at various levels have to make efforts for its success.
He urged the chief ministers to take the "good governance initiatives" to people, and said a dialogue should be held where suggestions of people are taken.
Shah said special efforts should be made towards cleanliness Dec 25 and party workers should enthusiastically take part in these efforts and connect with people.
The meeting was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Maharastra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
The chief ministers were in the capital for a meeting convened by Modi on the move to replace the Planning Commission with a new panel.
