Assam Police have killed an ULFA cadre of its anti-talks faction in a gun battle and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession, police said.
The gun battle took place at Salbari area in Kamrup district Tuesday night. The area is about 40 km from Assam's main city Guwahati.
"We launched an operation in the area based on a tip-off that some cadres of the outfit are taking shelter in the area," a police officer said, adding the police had to resort to firing after the militants opened fire at them with their automatic weapons.
"While one cadre was killed, the others in the group managed to escape," he said.
According to police, one 9 mm pistol, a grenade, one magazine, live ammunition and some explosives were recovered from the slain militant.
