Argentina international midfielder Exequiel Palacios faces more than a month on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg while playing for River Plate, the Buenos Aires club said.
Palacios sustained the injury in River's 2-0 victory over Racing Club in the Superliga Argentina on Sunday. Despite being in discomfort, the 20-year-old completed the full 90 minutes for the reigning Copa Libertadores champions, reports Xinhua news agency.
In a brief statement issued on Tuesday, River revealed that scans showed the playmaker had a fractured right fibula.
Local media said he would need at least 45 days to recover, a scenario that would rule him out of six league matches and three Copa Libertadores group fixtures.
Palacios, who made his debut for Argentina's national team last year, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in July.
