Argentina international striker Hernan Barcos scored a second-half winner as Gremio rose to second in the Campeonato Brasileiro standings with a 1-0 victory over Corinthians.
Barcos netted four minutes after halftime at Arena do Gremio Wednesday with a low left-footed shot following Maximiliano Rodriguez's assist. The result lifted Gremio above Botafogo in Brazil's top-flight standings with 52 points from 29 matches, reports Xinhua.
Atletico Paranaense also overtook Botafogo, who are away to Vitoria Thursday, with a 1-0 home victory over Atletico Mineiro.
Elsewhere, Rio giants Flamengo kept alive their slim hopes of a top-four finish with a 2-1 victory over Bahia at the Maracana Stadium. Hernane scored the winner five minutes from time after Bahia's Fernandao had cancelled out Paulinho's 52nd-minute opener.
