Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat on Monday visited Siachen, Leh and Srinagar and interacted with troops.
A Defence Ministry statement said Gen Rawat was accompanied by Northern Army Commander, Lt. Gen. D. Anbu.
At the Siachen Base camp, the Army chief laid a wreath at the Siachen War Memorial.
In Leh, he was briefed on the security situation and operational preparedness by the Corps Commander.
Gen Rawat later appreciated the "commitment, dedication, sacrifice and professionalism" of all officers and men posted in the region.
He later went to Srinagar for his first visit to the Kashmir Valley after becoming the Army chief.
He praised the soldiers for their "high morale, outstanding vigilance and state of preparedness".
