The Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday seized silver worth over Rs. two lakh from near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Nadia district, an official said.
The seizure was made by the troopers of 113th Battalion during a special anti-smuggling operation under Haidharpara border outpost area.
"We have seized 5.9 kg silver balls worth over Rs 2.37 lakh while they were being smuggled in. The smugglers however, managed to escape," said a BSF officer.
The BSF so far in the year, has seized over 56 kg of silver valuing in excess of over Rs 17 lakh and apprehended three Bangladeshi and two Indian smugglers from the South Bengal frontier zone.
