Around 70 per cent of votes were cast, till 5 p.m., for by-polls to the Maheshtala assembly constituency in West Bengal on Monday.
"The polling percentage till 5 p.m. is 70.01," said an Election Commission official.
Three candidates - the ruling Trinamool Congress' Dulal Chandra Das, the Communist Party of India-Marxist's Pravat Chowdhury and the Bharatiya Janata Party's Sujit Kumar Ghosh - are in fray for the by-election, necessitated by the death of sitting Trinamool member Kasturi Das. Dulal Das is the husband of the deceased legislator.
The EC official said over 50 allegations were received from various parties, but most of them were found to be "baseless".
