Atletico Madrid settled for a goalless draw against a superior Alaves squad in La Liga here.
Alaves dominated the action for most of Saturday's contest at Mendizorrotza Stadium here but failed to score despite numerous opportunities, reports Efe.
The play of Atletico goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya, who made an outstanding save of a powerful blast by Edgar Mendez in the 67th minute, was crucial in keeping Alaves off the scoreboard.
Adding to Atletico's woes, star defender Jose Gimenez was forced to leave the game in the 56th minute after sustaining a right-leg injury.
Atletico Madrid are currently in the fourth place in the Spanish league with 36 points -- seven behind league-leading Real Madrid, who have played two games less -- while Alaves is in the 12th place with 24 points.
