Australia chased down a strong total of 310 to register a commendable five-wicket victory over India in the opening game of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series at the WACA Ground here on Tuesday.

Hosts skipper Steve Smith (149 off 135) and George Bailey (122 off 120) helped them chase down the challenging total with ease to reach 310/5 in 49.2 overs to take a 1-0 lead.

India's opener Rohit struck a 163-ball 171 alongside Virat Kohli's 91 to help India to 309/3 in 50 overs.
