Bangladeshi deported from Malaysia for terror links

A Bangladeshi man was deported to Dhaka from Malaysia for allegedly supplying arms to a terrorist organisation, a media report said on Thursday.

The Malaysian police had arrested three foreigners and a local for their alleged involvement with terrorist groups, including the Islamic State, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

The other two foreigners were from Nepal and Morocco. They were also deported to their countries.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said in Kaula Lumpur that the suspects were detained by the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division between August 2 and September 17.

The 37-year-old Bangladeshi and 38-year-old Nepali were arrested on August 19.

Khalid said: "He (Bangladeshi) owns a restaurant in Bukit Bintang and was placed on Interpol's Red Notice. He was deported on September 2."

Bakar said the Nepali national ran an entertainment outlet and a hotel and it appears that he facilitated the travels of terrorists by falsifying documents.

The Moroccan, who worked as a welder, and the 34-year-old local man were Islamic State operatives in Malaysia, the report said.
