Midfielder Thiago Alcantara on Thursday extended his contract with German football giants Bayern Munich ahead of schedule for two years.
The two-year contract extension keeps the 24-year-old Spain international until June 2019 at Bayern, reports Xinhua.
"We are happy that Thiago decided to stay at Bayern on the long term. He is young and an important player for the club's future," Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement.
Alcantara joined Bayern in the summer 2013 from Barcelona with a deal until 2017. Due to a serious knee injury, which sidelined him for almost one year, Alcantara made only 41 appearances and three goals.
After two straight wins into the season, Bayern face Bayer Leverkusen in the third round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
