London, Sep 12 (IANS/EFE) British actor Benedict Cumberbatch showed his caring side when he participated in the short film, "Help Is Coming", to raise funds for Syrian refugee children.

The actor, who starred in the TV series Sherlock, collaborated in this project with Save the Children, and appears at the beginning of the film, reciting the lines of an emotional poem "Home" by Somali writer Warsan Shire, EFE reported on Friday.

"No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark (...) No one puts their child in a boat unless the water is safer than the land," the actor intoned in the video.

The brief introduction for the video ends with the phrase: "As people watching this tragedy unfold from the safety of our homes with our safe children, we want to say that we see you, we hear you and help is coming."

The charity project is the brainchild of writer Caitlin Moran and producer Peter Paphides, after both saw the image of Syrian child Aylan Kurdi dead on a beach in Turkey.
