Former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner said that the biggest disappointment of his cricketing career was to lose the 1983 World Cup final against India at Lord's.
Garner said the effect was such that he had stopped talking to his teammates following the loss.
"For a long time, two or three months, I wouldn't talk to any of my teammates. I would say that the 1983 World Cup was the biggest disappointment in terms of my cricket career," Garner was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo Thursday.
Garner added that it was the overconfidence of the West Indies that led to their surrender.
"Overconfidence is a hell of a thing. It was just that they took it for granted that they would make the 183," said the 62-year-old.
The West Indies were bowled out for 140 chasing a target of 183 runs, handing India their first World Cup title.
Garner picked up one wicket for 24 runs from his quota of 12 overs and remained not out on 5 in the final.
