A trader and his son were abducted in Bihar's Purnea district. The abductors later called the family and made a ransom demand of Rs.30 lakh, police said Wednesday.
Madhav Mahto, in his 50s, and his son Rinku Mahto, about 20 years old, were woken up from their sleep around midnight Tuesday by men in police uniform. The trader and his son were asked to accompany the armed men to the local police station, a district police official, Sanjit Kumar Prabhat, told IANS.
Prabhat said the abductors later called up the family and demanded a ransom of Rs.30 lakh to release Mahto and his son.
Superintendent of Police Ajit Kumar Satyarthi of Purnea district confirmed that the abductors wore police uniform at the time of the incident. A case has been lodged and investigations have begun, he said.
