Train traffic was hit in Assam on Monday as Bodo activists enforced a 'rail roko' to demand the creation of a Bodo state on the lines of Telangana.
The protest was called by the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Peoples Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) and the pro-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
The blockade of rail tracks began at around 5 a.m. in the Bodo heartland of Kokrajhar and Udalguri.
The protest affected at least 21 trains trains at different stations. The agitators withdrew the blockade around 3 p.m.
Thousands of passengers including the elderly, women and children were stranded at different stations.
The authorities said they organised medical and catering facilities at the railway stations.
