Violence continued unabated in Iraq with a total of 37 people being killed and 92 others injured in separate terror strikes Thursday, police sources said.

A car bomb explosion near a popular market in the Sadr City district in eastern Baghdad killed 12 people and injured 41 others, Xinhua reported. Some shops were also reportedly destroyed in the blast.

Minutes later, another car bomb went off near a group of restaurants in the same district, killing nine people and injuring 28 others.

In a separate incident, a civilian was killed and three others wounded when a roadside bomb exploded in the Karrada district, in Baghdad.

Also, a suicide bomber blew himself up in a cafe in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, killing at least 15 people and wounding 20 others, according to a local police source.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years, leaving 5,576 civilians dead in the first half of this year, with 11,666 more wounded, according to a recent UN report.
