A Pakistani smuggler was killed after a gunfight with Border Security Force (BSF) troopers along the Pakistan border in Punjab's Ferozepur early Wednesday and nine kg of heroin recovered from the spot, BSF officials said.
The incident took place near border outpost Jagdish in the Ferozepur sector, 275 km from here. The BSF recovered two pistols, ammunition and three mobiles from the spot.
The recovered heroin is valued Rs.45 crore.
A BSF spokesman said that the gunfight ensued after troopers spotted two smugglers trying to bring the heroin consignment into India.
The BSF has recovered over 304 kg of heroin along the 553-km-long India-Pakistan border in Punjab this year, against 288 kg heroin last year.
BSF troopers have killed five Pakistan smugglers along the international border this year.
