"The proposed steel and power plants in Burdwan will not happen anymore," managing director Rajkumar Dhoot told media persons here.
The group which had signed a MoU with the then Left Front government for the projects, has long been mulling to shift them after it failed to make much progress on acquiring land and getting coal blocks in the state.
"The reason that the Burdwan projects will not happen is the non-availability of coal linkage. If we are a given coal blocks today, we can get the project running," said Dhoot.
Dhoot, however, added that the company has not blocked any land although it was available for the project.
"I reiterate that we have not blocked any land for the project although land is available there (Burdwan). We tried with all our might to start the project but unfortunately it is not going to happen anymore," he added.
The group had acquired land at Jamuria in Burdwan district for the project, which was to comprise a three million tonnes per annum steel plant and 1,200 MW power plant.
