Seeking to curb gender-based violence in the country, an NGO Thursday launched a project that aims to address the issue through increased participation of the community.
"The project 'Wajood' will increase access to care and treatment services for girls and women, work with boys and men in order to sensitize them and push for necessary legal reforms," said Population Services India (PSI) director Pritpal Marjara.
It will provide a platform to women who have been silent sufferers and a help to assault victims.
"Support services will allow victims to discover their identity and live with dignity," Indrani Goradia of Indrani Light Foundation said.
Goradia, who is also a victim of gender violence, said it is important to work with men and create activism among them to fight against the problem prevalent in the society.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 2,44,270 incidents of crime against women were reported in in 2012, with Delhi alone having 5,959 cases.
