The CBI on Friday arrested a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) official for demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 bribe from a street vendor allowing him to continue his business, an official said.

The NDMC inspector, identified as Vijay Kumar, was arrested from Connaught Place in central Delhi.

"The NDMC inspector was demanding a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a street hawker for allowing him to carry on his business in Connaught Place area. We laid a trap and caught the inspector red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant," said Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spokesperson R.K. Gaur.

Vijay Kumar would be produced before a designated court on Saturday, he added.
