The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested a current and a former managing director of a public sector unit in connection with a corruption case involving Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's former principal secretary Rajendra Kumar.
Kumar is accused of misusing his official position and facilitating tenders worth Rs 9.5 crore.
Those arrested are R.S. Kaushik, the present managing director of Intelligent Communication System India Limited (ICSIL), and G.K. Nanda, former managing director of ICSIL.
"Kaushik and Nanda conspired with other accused, including a public servant (Rajendra Kumar), and awarded tenders to Delhi-based private company Endeavour Systems Private Limited (ESPL) by violating tender guidelines," CBI Public Information Officer R.K. Gaur told IANS.
The official said Kaushik and Nanda would be produced before a competent court in Delhi on Sunday.
Kaushik and Nanda are among seven others, including Kumar, who were booked in a First Information Report filed by the CBI on December 14, 2015 on a reference by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Delhi government.
Rajendra Kumar, a 1989-batch IAS officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, was charged by the CBI with abusing official position in awarding contracts from the city government to private firm Endeavour Systems Private Limited.
The other accused in the case are Kumar's close aide Ashok Kumar, another former managing directors of ICSIL A.K. Duggal and two directors of Endeavour Systems Private Limited -- Sandeep Kumar and Dinesh Kumar Gupta.
Rajendra Kumar, Ashok Kumar, former assistant director of VAT department Tarun Sharma, Sandeep Kumar and Dinesh Kumar Gupta were arrested on Monday and sent to CBI custody till July 10 by a court.
Investigators said Rajendra Kumar allegedly facilitated an award of five contracts worth Rs.9.5 crore to ICSIL and Endeavour Systems during 2007-2014.
The CBI officer on Saturday said the agency has got the conformation from the forensic laboratory (CFSL) about the conversation between Rajendra Kumar and the other accused in the corruption case.
The official said that Rajendra Kumar is still evasive during questioning but other arrested persons revealed that he used to pressurise the witnesses in the case.
