The image of the CBI has touched "rock bottom" and the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has contributed to the process, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley said Tuesday.
His remarks come a day after Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh questioned the Supreme Court terming the CBI a "caged parrot". The apex court said so after the CBI in an affidavit admitted to government interference in its report on the allocation of coal blocks.
"Over the years, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has belittled itself. The government has actively contributed to this process. The image of the CBI has touched a rock bottom," Rajya Sabha's Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley said in an article released by the party.
Digvijaya Singh, in comments to the press Monday had said the court's comments "belittled" the institutions, and also said that court should give judgment and not make observations.
Jaitley attacked Digvijaya Singh and said he is "known to speak out of turn".
"The comment that Judges only speak through written orders and not orally can only come from a person unfamiliar with the functioning of a court," Jaitley added.
