West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that the Centre was not aiding the state government to tackle the flood situation.

"Flood waters have washed out away roads and bridges and damaged crops. The Centre is not helping... it is not doing anything (to alleviate the situation in Bengal)," Banerjee told the media here.

The flood situation in West Bengal was improving, but the toll due to the deluge in the state has risen to 50.

As many as 26 persons drowned, seven died of snakebites, six due to lightning strikes, five in wall collapses, four were electrocuted, and two died in boat capsizes.

As the water level had receded in most places, the number of relief camps has now been brought down to 151.

In all, 27 lakh persons were affected in 105 blocks of 14 districts of West Bengal after a monsoon downpour and release of water from the Damodar Valley Corporation dams, he said.
