Several faculty members of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday urged the government to constitute a parliamentary and judicial committee to look into faculty members' selection at the institute, citing violation of reservation policy.

The faculties, which have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the banner Forum for Rights and Equality, have also demanded that the government onduct a special recruitment drive to fill all the existing vacant post for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Class cateories at all levels, including for the faculty.

There have been allegations that in the recent faculty selection, out of total advertised 96 posts, 76 candidates were selected. A majority of the reserved posts were left vacant on the ground that no suitable candidate was found.

The group of faculty, that includes L.R. Murmu and H.L. Nag, have also written to President Pranab Mukherjee and the health ministry over the issue recently.

The letter to Modi has demanded review and devise mechanism for optimal implementation of the reservation policy at AIIMS, and also the appointment of a parliamentary reservation implementation committee to monitor implementation of reservation policy in medical institutions of the country.
